Job description:
Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Steel Fabricator will be responsible for fitting, fabricating, welding, and to ensure the plant runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely.
• Build, fabricate, and assemble metal parts according to blueprints and specifications.
• Construct patterns and templates as guides for layouts.
• Lay out reference points and patterns on heavy metal according to component specifications.
• Mark the location of holes to be drilled and install temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding.
• Prepare templates for the fabrication of nonstandard parts.
• Assemble and fit metal sections and plates to form complete units or subunits using tack welding, bolting, or other methods.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Perform quality checks to ensure products meet specifications.
• Weld components together using various welding techniques.
• Set up and operate various heavy-duty metal-working machines such as brake presses, shears, cutting torches, grinders, and drills, including computer numerical control (CNC) equipment, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill or otherwise form heavy-metal components.
• Conduct maintenance and repairs on equipment as needed.
Requirements:
• Intermediate or Advanced level of English
• Red Seal Fabricator Ticket is an asset.
• All position-ticketed welder is an asset.
• Previous experience in metal fabrication or a related field (steel fitter) is required.
• Proficient in blueprint reading and interpreting technical drawings.
• Experience with welding techniques such as SMAW, FCAW, stick welding, and arc welding.
• Strong attention to detail and precision in steel fabrication.
• Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays to meet client project commitments
